Jeff Howard of PKS and Flymount USA using the new S1 in snow

One of the great things about the Flymount S1 for iPhones is the protection it gives to your phone while you are skiing. You can shoot busts of video using the remote and share them at the bottom. The virgin polycarbonate shell protects against water, shock and impact and the rotated wide angle lens gives you great views from helmet or hand held views.
Here's Jeff Howard with the Flymount S1 mounted on the side of his helmet.

Great discrete street shooting with handheld Flymount S1 for iPhone

If you like shooting stealth videos with your iPhone then the Flymount S1 is one of the best secret shooters around.
Because the lens widens the view angle and turns it through 90º you can hold the Flymount sideways on, a natural hold, and easily shoot from low down or high up for great new viewpoints.
We designed it for head mounting, on the side or top of your helmet, but it's just as good - maybe better (?) in the hand.
Look how easily it fits this female hand. In a man's hand it's even better hidden.

How the revolutionary Flymount S1 flat mount case for iPhones works

One of the things that always intrigues people when they handle the Flymount S1 is the way in which it flips the lens round so you don't have to point the phone straight at the subject, you don't have to do the 'dirty diaper' hold that shows you're taking a shot and it's really neat in the hand or on your head.
The lens is a specially designed, patent pending optical plastic high precision moulding made out of the same sort of material that is used in professional applications.

Small injection moulded lenses are extremely difficult to manufacture at the high quality we need, small errors can completely distort the projected image. It has taken us 3 years to get the design and manufacturing right, but it's been worth it when we see the pleasure on our testers' faces.
Widening the view was another important issue. The standard iPhone lens is relatively narrow for action video but we couldn't create a fisheye effect without spoiling the quality, and that superwide view is more the province of GoPros, Drifts etc which the Flymount S1 doesn't compete with.

The whole concept of the Flymount S1 is that you can shoot rapid, action packed videos and share them. Because you've got a great screen to view on, you can shoot sequences until you've got what you want - and then you can edit and share online within minutes of the shoot.
It's great for perfecting techniques, as well. The guys at the skatepark yesterday were really interested in getting shots of feet positions for a particular jump action. You can use the Flymount S1 as a training tool like this.

The Flymount app is part of the package. It addresses all the issues we found with flipping the image. We sorted the focus hunting, stabilization and timing so the camera works as you'd expect, but it just looks like magic when you see it!
See us on Kickstarter or the Flymount website.

Flymount starts a Kickstarter campaign for the new Flymount S1 for iPhone

The new Flymount S1 for iPhones is a rugged water resistant case with unique handling and lens system for low profile action videos. Designed over the last 3 years with international cooperation - our great partners in the USA, Jeff Howard at PKS, have been brilliant at making improvement suggestions - and with a lens system that rotates and widens the view for use in hand or 3 positions on a helmet ( and a new soft head band is being finalized right now)  the Flymount S1 safely takes the iPhone to places it wouldn't normally go.
Have a look at the Kickstarter campaign:

What is the Flymount S1 for iPhone?

We created the Flymount S1 because so many people told us they always had their iPhone with them, even snowboarding or mountain biking - and they often tried to use it to shoot quick videos for sharing. They also told us that they had smashed quite a few iPhones!
So they wanted a helmet mounting solution.
The problem with wearing your iPhone on a helmet, probably one the best positions, is that the iPhone shoot flat on to the direction of travel - and it's ugly and cumbersome that way.
Our solution - and it's taken us 3 years of design and lens evolution - was to put the iPhone (4 & 5) into a very strong waterproof virgin polycarbonate casing and let the lens see through our patent pending 90º forward facing wide angle lens.
This allows a simple and elegant side mounting system, with easy angle adjustment,  either side - or top mounted for a different view and orientation.
The lens system is solid state, optically coated and very rugged with excellent results.
Of course, you can hand hold the Flymount S1 for low down shots, using a wrist strap for security, and it's virtually anonymous - very discreet if you are doing some street stuff.
It looks great for really low shots at ground level - and if it all goes horribly wrong the virgin polycarbonate shell will protect your expensive phone from shock and water.
This is what it looks like in the snow;

Simon Grainger with the Flymount S1 for iPhone 4 & 5 snowboarding in the alps

Simon Grainger, product designer and leading CAD person on the development of the Flymount S1 casing technology, took an early prototype to the Alps in Europe for some product testing this January.
The results have been very good and convincing - proving the product in harsh conditions.
It looks like production will start in the next 2 months, we are pulling off the first pristine moulds  now and I'll be taking them down to the Spanish Sierra Nevada in March for some mountain biking and tests of the remote control in real conditions.
Here is what the Flymount S1 for iPhones 4 & 5 looks like in the European Alps.

New Flymount S1 with iPhone 5 in the snowy mountains

Jeff Howard of PKS, working with Flymount on the new Flymount S1 for iPhones is seen here stress testing and shooting footage in Colorado.
The new Flymount S1 is now in the final stages of production and we are just tweaking the software and hardware for reliability and function. Field testing has been underway for several months and the feedback has been great - the S1 means you can shoot wideangle footage with your iPhone while snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, skateboarding and many other sports. The unique patented lens system rotates and widens the view, the virgin polycarbonate case withstands shock and immersion and protects your precious iPhone while you enjoy your action sport.
The Flymount S1's unique adjustable mounting system allows you to mount on either side or top of your helmet for ultimate versatility and shooting variety.
More to follow.

Utterly amazing Hyperlapse video of Dubai by Rob Whitworth

Dubai Flow Motion from Rob Whitworth on Vimeo.

I've never been fond of Dubai - mainly because I've aways been shooting there in the heat, or in transit to Bahrain or Johannesburg or somewhere, so I've not been able to rave about it. But in the hands of an expert videographer like Rob Whitworth it becomes magical.
This is what he says:

"My first impression of Dubai was that of super-tall buildings jutting out of the desert sand. However, after 3 months of exploration, research and filming, my lasting impression is of the eternal wonder of the desert and the importance it holds for the Emirati people.
Dubai may be home to the world’s most outrageous skyline but Dubai’s desert dunes and historical creek are where you’ll find its soul.
A special thank you to Dubai Film for making this project possible and for providing the extraordinary access which enabled me to realise this story.
If you want to see more..."

Flymount S1 for iPhone mounted on bike helmet - alternative top mounting position

The new Flymount S1 for iPhones is ultra versatile.
Side mounted you get full-on wide angle view from either side of your helmet - but you can also use it on top for a counter-intuitive but very effective portrait video - ideal for sharing on other smart phones.
Coming from a conventional video background I have shied away from the portrait view video but it works really well, much better than I imagined, because it's a natural way to view your phone. The wide angle of the Flymount means you can shoot great action sequences, using the remote, and analyze the footage if you are working on a move. Or you can just catch things as they happen rather than recording hours of footage for a few minutes of highlights.
Here's the Flymount S1 on top of a vented bike helmet.
