Canon RC-5 Wireless Remote Control

I found this on the John Lewis website. Could be quite useful.. Better still if it were waterproof.

Control your camera shutter remotely with this infra-red Canon remote. Suitable for use with the Canon EOS 10, 100, 30, 50/50E, 300D, 400D and caption compact cameras.

The Rollei X-8 Sports camera £179.99

I just noticed this. What do you think?

This is what gadgetsquick.co.uk had to say about it:

The Rollei X-8 Sports is one of the most feature packed compact sports digital cameras on the market today. Its an 8 Megapixel digital camera with the integrated Rollei 3x Apogen Zoom lens. A huge 3 inch TFT colour Screen on the reverse and a large capacity 8 GB SD card support.

But this camera is very different from others as this camera is for the true adventurers amongst you. It is built for adventure and watersports as it is Waterproof to 10m, Shockproof to 1m and even Frostproof down to -5 degrees C !! When you summarize the features... the Rollei X8 Sports is a great camera for all occasions, and the stunning design makes it also the digital camera to be seen with.

What is the Flymount?

The Flymount is a tough, lightweight mount for attaching cameras to sports equipment. Any camera that can be mounted to a tripod can be attached to the Flymount. This means that you can use the camera of your choice. The Flymount has been specifically designed with action sports in mind; unlike any other camera mount, it will hold your camera still under the most extreme of conditions. Whether in waves, snow, mud or sand, whether you are jumping, twisting, looping, speeding or flying, the Flymount won't move an inch and neither will your camera.

In essence the Flymount is:
  • Designed to give a bomb-proof attachment - to both camera and sports equipment
  • Ultra light-weight - will not impair performance
  • Ultra Strong - made from high-grade glass reinforced nylon and stainless steel, the Flymount has been built to withstand heavy use in extreme environments
  • Built to last - will withstand a minimum of 4,500 hours of direct sunlight without deteriorating
  • Compact - Low swing weight, fits in a pocket
  • Non damaging - soft mouthed to protect equipment
  • Waterproof - for ALL weather conditions
We would particularly advise the Flymount to be used with Waterproof / shockproof cameras for all action sports.

PERFECT FOR USE ON YOUR:
Mountain bike
Road bike
Motorbike/Motorcross
Windsurf mast or boom
Hang-glider
Sail boat
BMX
Canoe
Kayak
Jet ski
Go-kart
and many many more....

The flymount attached the camera to the BMX's wheel bar.  After a few tricks on the ramp we got some pretty impressive footage.

Ok, so I'm following a blog about an avid kayaker, who shares his kayaking and photography experiences. Look him up on: http://photokayaker.fit2paddle.com/about-2/

I've just noticed he's done a poll on which cameras people use for kayaking. Pentax wins hands down, with the Gopro gaining just 1% of the vote. See results below.

My Pentax W60

Also shot in Tarifa, this really demonstrates the clarity and colour you are able to achieve with the Pentax w60. The new waterproof cameras are a great contender to any of the decent point and shoot cameras for quality.

The Flymount in action

Windsurfing in Tarifa 2008, this shot was taken using the Pentax optio W60 mounted to the mast using the Flymount. The camera was programmed to take shots every 10 seconds.
